12月といえばクリスマス！　今日のASでは、ずっと欲しかったおもちゃ、ならぬ実験道具を手に入れてウキウキしている班がたくさんありました。汽水域班は塩分濃度計をついにゲット！　これで汽水域がはっきり分かりますね。早速ウェーダーを身につけていつもの川へレッツゴー！　ヘドロを発見してはしゃぐJK。これも青春ですね。

　「走る」班が手に入れたのは「AI骨格検出システム」。こちらはかなり本格的です。動画の３D解析ができるツールらしく、英文の説明書もお手のもの！　早速パソコンにつないで、運動場で走ったときの体の動きを解析していました。実に楽しそうにしています！　その頃、「音」班もやっとベニア板（T2ラワン合板というらしいです。さて、ラワンとは？）を手に入れ、どれくらい防音できるかを調べるための小さな「部屋」づくりに勤しんでいます。やっと「インスタ映え」する写真が撮れました！！

　23日のKSHでは、各班ポスター発表を行うことになっていますが、班によっては１人での発表となる班も...　久しぶりにお越しいただいた崇城大学の田丸先生には、「ポスターの分かりづらいところを指摘し合い、より分かりやすいポスターで伝わる発表を目指す」ようご助言をいただきました。（また、継続している質疑応答練習についてもお褒めいただきました。ありがとうございます！）

　今日で２学期のASⅡは終わりです。来週は修学旅行、その次は修学旅行の代休、そしてあっという間に終業式がやってきます。23日の発表会では、大人数の中で初めて会う人にも研究内容を伝えられるでしょうか。また、それが終わると28日のサイエンスアカデミー（小中学校の生徒にサイエンスの楽しさを伝えます）。更に更に、１月の研修では全班英語でのプレゼンが予定されています。忙しい冬になりそうですね。みんながんばって！

     It’s December - that means Christmas is coming VERY soon!　Today there were many groups who were excited to get a toy from Santa. Well, actually what they got were experimental tools that they had long wanted. The group “Brackish water” finally got a salinity meter they dreamed of! Wearing waders, they went to the river excitedly.

　The group "Running" got the "AI Skeleton Detection System.” It seems to be a tool that can perform 3D analysis of videos. The students set it up and started analyzing their body movements they had shot. They really seemed to be enjoying themselves!

　Meanwhile, the"Sound" group finally got their hands on a veneer board (called T2 Lauan Plywood. What is “Lauan” by the way?)  They were working on building a small "room" to see how well it can be soundproofed. While the boys were quietly making posters for their presentations on the computer, the girls were assembling the boards with hammers in their hands. Finally, we could take some "instagrammable" photos of this group!

　At the KSH presentation on the 23rd, each group will have a poster presentation.  Dr. Tamaru of Sojo University came to today’s classes and gave some advice on making good and easy-to-understand posters. (He also complimented us on our ongoing Q&A practice. Thank you!)

　Today is the last ASII in this term. We will have a closing ceremony in about two weeks, but they have presentations and “Science Academy (Science Day with Elementary and Junior High Students)” during the winter holiday. It is going to be a busy winter. Good luck everyone!

　再来週の本評価を控えた２年生、今日のATⅠでは実験やアンケートの結果を分析している班が多かったようです。その中で困っていた ある班を発見しました。天草特産のみかんを活かした特産品を開発すべく、先日試作品の調理を行ったものの、本評価で示せる数値データがありません。調理の際、数値を取らなかったのか尋ねてみたところ、「バタバタして記録を取っていません」とのこと...。

　仮説の検証を常に頭において研究を進めていくことは、簡単そうで実は結構難しいのだと感じます。仮説の検証につながる信頼できるデータを確実にとっていくには、しっかりとグループ内でのディスカッションを行い、情報を共有することが必要です。その上で、班員でやるべきことを分担して計画的かつ論理的に研究を進めていかねばなりません。さて、各班、本評価までに結果を出せるのでしょうか。みんな頑張って！

　今日は久しぶりに熊本大学と天草市役所から先生方が来られ、地域と関わる研究をしている各班に研究の助言をいただきました。また、次の実験に向けて器具を準備している班もありました（オリーブかすから化粧水に使うスクワランという成分を抽出するそうです）。ディスカッションや活動を重ね、それぞれの研究が少しずつ、少しずつ進んでいます。

　　In ATⅠ today, students are preparing for their evaluation coming in two weeks. We had some advisors from Kumamoto University and Amakusa City come and give advice. Meanwhile, a group was preparing equipment for their next experiment (they are trying to extract a component called squalane from olive pomace). Many others are analyzing the results of their experiments and surveys. 

　　There we found one group in trouble. They have been developing a new product utilizing locally grown oranges, and they cooked some pies the other day.  They enjoyed their cooking and it looked like a success.  But now they have a problem - no numerical data to show in the evaluation. They say they were too busy to keep a record when cooking...

　　It looks like students sometimes forget the fact that they must verify the hypotheses. It is essential to keep discussing in groups and to share the same goal.  No matter what research they do, every single group needs to obtain reliable data to verify the hypothesis.  Well, there should be a way.  Never give up! Gambatte!!

本日のATⅡでは、他の班が作成した提言書を評価表を用いて評価しました。

どんな点が良く書けていて、どんな点が分かりにくかったのかを指摘し合います。

この相互評価を経て、次回はリライトを行い完成となります。完成度を高めるために最後まで頑張っています。

今月末に行われる九州大会に出場が決まった科学部化石班が調査を行いました。

前回の調査よりも範囲を広げ、さらにデータを増やしました。

新たな調査結果も含めて、8500万年前の古環境を明らかにしていきたいと思います。

　本日のASでは、冒頭にSSH主任の宮﨑先生より今後のスケジュールについて話がありました。12月には二つの外部発表会が予定されており、冬休みにはサイエンスアカデミー（小中学生対象の科学教室）、1月には海外研修代替研修が予定されています（英語の発表あり）。冬の予定もぎっしりですね！

　さて、明日から12月。外もずいぶん寒くなってきました。久々に川に入ってヘドロを採取しようとした「汽水域」班... 川の水の冷たいこと！　そして、そんな時に限って目的のものがなかなか手に入りません... 川底が堅かったり、石ばかりだったり... 手を真っ赤にしながらも、あきらめずに最後の最後まで川で格闘する二人でした。

　質疑応答も頑張っています。４週目を迎え、各班２回ずつ質問または説明＆応答を経験したことになります。少しずつ慣れてきたかな？　次回からは英語も使いつつこの活動を行おうと（ひそかに）計画しています。簡単なことではありませんが、きっとみんなならできるはず！　期待しています。

    At the beginning of today’s ASⅡ, Mr. Miyazaki told his students about the upcoming schedule: two external presentations are scheduled for December, the “Science Academy” (science classes for elementary and junior high school students) is scheduled for winter break.  And in January, a study tour is scheduled (where students have presentations in English). What a busy winter you all have!

　Time flies, and it’s already December tomorrow. The group "Brackish Water" went outside in the cold  to collect sludge... The water in the river was really really cold!　To make matters worse, they had a very hard time getting what they wanted - the bottom of the river was hard, or there were only stones... The two were red handed, but never gave up, and struggled in the river until the very end of the classes.

　They are also doing their best in the Q&A sessions. Now in the fourth week since we started this activity, each group has had two turns asking questions or explaining and answering questions. It looks like many of them are getting used to it little by little. Hopefully we will be doing this activity using English soon. We know it will not be so easy, but we are sure everyone will be able to do it!  Keep on doing!
