本日はB2（数値データを収集する）の本評価でした。この評価は、研究の中での対照実験や調査、追加実験の実施回数や内容を問うものです。いつものように担当者との面談形式で行われ、生徒たちはこれまでの研究への取組を精一杯自分の言葉で説明しようと頑張っていました。

　終了後は、各班、研究のデータを整理するなど、ポスター作成のための下準備をしていました。これは、３月に学年で実施する「ミニ探究成果発表会」に向けての活動です。２年生（ATⅠ）は３月１９日に天草市民センターで行うARP探究成果発表会では発表を予定していませんが、その代わりに、この「ミニ発表会」で各班の成果を共有することにしています。学年の仲間に自分が研究していることについて知らせるだけでなく、他の班の研究の手法やプレゼン技術を学ぶ貴重な機会になると思います。週１時間と限られた時間ではありますが、時間の使い方を工夫して、計画的に進めていきましょう！

     Today at ATⅠ, students had an evaluation called ‘B2’ (collecting numerical data). Students were asked how many times they had conducted controlled experiments or surveys, and what they were about. They also had a chance to talk about their additional experiments if they had any. As usual, students had an interview with teachers in which they tried their best to explain how their research had been going so far.

　After the evaluation, each group organized data from their research in preparation for their poster. This was for their small presentation that will be held at the school in March. This will be a valuable opportunity to share what they have been researching, and to learn about other groups' research methods and presentation techniques. Good luck!

　海外研修の代替研修も無事終了し、今週のASⅡでは久々の研究活動が活発に行われています。何かを作ったり、機械や装置などを使ったりしている班も多く、みんな生き生きとしています！　中には、３月１９日に行われるARP探究成果発表会に向けて、スライドを作り始めた班もあります。KSH、JICA研修など、学校外での発表経験も少しずつ増えてきています。これまでの経験を活かし、データに基づいた考察をしっかりと行うことで、発表会では各班、研究の成果をしっかり見せたいところです。

　さて、今日は冬晴れの中、久々に汽水域班がウェーダー着用で川に出かけました。今日は汽水域以外のヘドロを求めて、海の方まで歩いてみるとのこと。塩分濃度計で川の水の塩分を計測しつつ、学校前の町山口川を、どんどん海に向かって歩いていきます。ちなみに、塩分0.05-3.0％が汽水域なんだそうです。

　色鮮やかな鯉や、のんびり日向ぼっこをする鴨たちを見ながら歩くこと15分。わが町が誇る、国の重要文化財！祇園橋までやってきました。なかなか風情があって素敵な石橋です。でも、うーん、川底は石や砂ばかりで、お目当てのヘドロは見つからず。困って「ヘドロはどこ？」と検索したところ、検索結果の上位に来たのは人気ゲームの「くろいヘドロ」の入手方法でした...　すみません。ちゃんと自分たちの足で探すことにします。

　またしばらく歩くと、だんだん海の匂いがしてきました。塩分濃度を測り、水の流れが少ないところを探して、スコップを挿してみます。「黒いのあった！」「匂ってみて！」「くさい！やった！ヘドロだ！！」...うん、若者にこんなに喜んでもらえるなんて、ヘドロもきっと本望だと思います。バケツに「戦利品」を入れて、ついでにプラスチックゴミも拾いつつ、帰路についた２人。学校に帰ったら、このヘドロからの発電量を調べる作業が待っています。汽水域のヘドロと、それ以外の場所のヘドロの発電量はどう異なるのでしょうか？　もしかしたら他にも違いがあるかも！？　気になる人は、是非３月の成果発表会で「汽水域班」の発表をお聞きください！

　　 In AS II this week, Many of the groups are making something or doing some experiments, and it looks like everyone is enjoying their research!　Some of the groups have started to make slides for the ARP presentation to be held on March 19.  We hope that each group can make the best of their presentation experience, and of course, can share what they have been devoting themselves with the audience!

　     Today, the “Brackish-water” group went out to the river wearing waders. They were walking towards the ocean in search of sludge outside the brackish water area, as well as measuring the salinity of the river water. After 15 minutes of walking, they arrived at the Gion Bridge, which is a lovely and elegant stone bridge built in 1832.  Searching around the bridge, the river bottom was full of stones and sand, and there was none of the sludge they had been longing for…  feeling lost, they googled: "where is sludge?"  Do you know what they got? - Well, the top result was how to get one of the Pokemon items, "Black Sludge"...  looks like they have no other choice but to look for the “real” sludge by themselves.

　      After walking again for a while, they gradually began to smell the ocean. The students measured the salinity, looked for a place where the water flow was low, and inserted a shovel into the mud - “I can see the black stuff!” “It smells really bad!” “Hurray! We got it!”  With their black "treasure" in the bucket, they headed back to school, picking up some plastic trash along the way.  After returning to school, they will have to investigate the amount of electricity generated from this sludge. How does the amount of electricity generated from sludge in brackish water differ from that of sludge in other areas?　Maybe there are other differences too! If you are interested, please come and listen to the presentation by the "Brackish Water Group" in March!

　セルビアのお菓子でほっと一息ついた後は、ASの本領発揮！　プレゼンテーションタイムです。今日の研修に参加しているのは合計１２班あり、防音、電磁誘導、汽水域など様々な研究テーマについての発表です。はじめに、奇数班が発表します。慣れない英語での発表、自分たちなりに準備してはきたものの、ついつい原稿を読んでしまったり、１０分のプレゼンなのにわずか４分で終わってしまった班も！　しかし、プレゼン１０分＋質疑応答の５分、なんとかつながないといけません。（セルビアのみなさんの、身を乗り出したり、ジェスチャーを交えたりして、生徒たちのプレゼンを理解しようとしてくれる姿勢に感謝...！ ）早く終わった班も、質問があったところをもう一度違う言い方で説明してみたりと工夫して、なんとか１５分の発表をやりきっていました。

　後半は偶数班の発表です。前半の発表を見ていたからか、心なしか顔を上げてアイコンタクトをしっかり意識して発表できている班が増えたようにも感じます。ここでは研究に使っている精油の香りをかいでもらったり、防音の度合いを計測するために作った器具を実際に見せたり、複数の班に発表の工夫が見られました。とはいえ、大半の班が発表時間１０分に大きく満たず、結果として質疑応答でたくさん質問を受けるという状況に陥ってしまい、苦戦（？）を強いられている様子...。やはり、質問を聞き取ることはできても、英語で説明をするのはかなり難しいようです。それでも、どの生徒も班の仲間と協力しながら、何とか自分たちの言いたいことを伝えようと精一杯がんばっていました。

　プレゼンテーションが終了したのは３時半。名残惜しいですが、そろそろお別れの時間です。みんな笑顔で写真撮影をし、JICAをあとにしました。（研修員の方々には、セルビアの工芸品までいただきました。大事にします！）バスがJICA九州の玄関を出たその先の先まで、スタッフのみなさんはずっと手を振って見送ってくださいました。今回の研修にはJICAのスタッフの方々や研修員の方をはじめ、多くの方々にお世話になっています。温かく送り出してくださった保護者の方にも、感謝の気持ちが表せるといいですね。

　さて、生徒たちは学校に無事８時ごろ到着し、それぞれの家路に着きました。どの生徒も今回の研修をやりきった充実感にあふれた、すがすがしい表情でした。今回の学びをこれからに活かし、明日からまた研究活動をがんばってください！

   After enjoying Serbian sweets, it's time for presentations! There are 12 groups participating in today's training, presenting on various research topics such as soundproofing, electromagnetic induction, or power generation with sludge from brackish water soil. The first half of the groups had their presentations first. Although they had been preparing their presentations in English, some ended up staring at their drafts, and some finished their presentations in only 4 minutes instead of 10 minutes! However,  thanks to the Serbian participants who leaned forward and made gestures to try to understand the students' presentations, students managed to complete their 15-minute presentation by asking questions or explaining more about their research.

　Then the second of the groups had their presentations. After the first groups’ presentations, more students were able to make their presentations with their faces up and making more eye contact. Several groups tried to attract the audiences by having them smell the oil used in their experiments or showing the equipment they had made to measure the degree of soundproofing. However, most of the groups still finished their presentations very quickly. As a result, they were asked more questions than they had expected during the Q&A session, and they seemed to be struggling a lot. Nevertheless, all the students tried their best to convey what they wanted to say in English, cooperating with their group mates.

　The presentation ended around 3:30 pm. and it was time to say goodbye. Everyone was taking pictures with smiles on their faces. The JICA participants even gave us a Serbian handicraft as a gift!  The staff members waved us off until the very last minute, when our bus finally disappeared from sight. It was thanks to the JICA staff, JICA participants, and many other people who helped us on this program that we could make this study tour a success. We hope the students can also express their gratitude to their family who always support them.

　We arrived safely at the school around 8:00 p.m. All the students looked satisfied after completing this long day. We hope that they will make the most of what they have learned through this study tour, and keep going on their research activities from tomorrow onward!

　昼食後、いよいよ本格的に研修がスタートしました。まず最初に、九州海外協力協会の宮原様にJICAの事業説明をしていただきました。動画を交えた分かりやすいプレゼンテーションで、生徒たちは開発途上国の状況と、JICAがどのような方法で途上国に支援を行っているかを学びます。その後は、同じく九州海外協力協会の原口様のワークショップ「世界の観方をシフトする “Think globally, act locally”」。このワークショップでは、あるベストセラー本からのクイズ（「チンパンジークイズ」、聞いたことありますか？）や、数種類の世界地図を用いてその違いを考えたりする活動などを行いました。生徒たちだけでなく、私たち引率者も、今まで一方向からしか物事を見ていなかったことに気づかせてくれる、まさに「目からウロコ」の体験をさせていただきました。

　その後、セルビアからの10名の研修員のみなさんといよいよご対面です。ちなみに、ここからの活動は司会も含めてすべて英語で行います。日本に到着してまだ３日目だという研修員のみなさん、素敵な笑顔で自己紹介してくださいました。その後、有志５名が天草の魅力と天草高校、ASクラスの活動についてスライド発表をしてくれました（トップバッター、本当にお疲れさま！）それから、生徒たちは小グループで研修員の方々との交流を行います。折り紙でかぶとや折り紙を作ったり、筆ペンを使って研修員の方のお名前を日本語で書いたり。最初はやや緊張していた様子の生徒たちでしたが、徐々に打ち解け、研修員の方々の笑顔につられて思わず笑顔になる生徒が増えてきました。セルビアの名所を教えていただいたり、中にはセルビアの「ピースサイン」の仕方（日本の「ピース」と違います！）を教えてもらっていたグループもありました。グループ交流後の休憩時間には、セルビアのおやつ（チョコレートやピーナッツ味のスナック、プレッツェルなど）までごちそうになりました！

   We had various activities after lunch. First, Ms. Miyahara from the Kyushu Overseas Cooperation Association explained what JICA is about and what they do to help people in developing countries. Through her presentation, which contained some videos, students gained an overview of JICA. This was followed by a workshop by Mr. Haraguchi called, "Think globally, act locally.”  In this workshop, we first had a chance to see if we were any wiser than Chimpanzees!  (Well, it’s a kind of joke - if you want to know in detail, you can look up “Chimpanzee quiz.”)  We also had an activity using several different world maps and discussed the differences between them. His workshop truly gave us an eye-opening experience that made not only the students, but also us teachers, realize that we had been looking at things with a one-sided view.

　After that, we finally met the 10 trainees from Serbia. After their self-introductions, five students gave presentations about our town and what we do at our school. Then all the students interacted with the Serbians in small groups. They made origami warrior helmets or wrote the names of the Serbian participants in Japanese using brush pens. At first, students seemed a little nervous, but they gradually became more relaxed as they learned more about each other through these activities. Some learned about beautiful places in Serbia, and some learned how to represent the Serbian "peace sign" (which is different from the Japanese way!). During the break time, we were even treated to Serbian snacks (chocolate, peanut-flavored snacks, pretzels, etc.)!

　いよいよやってきました、JICA研修！　ASⅡの生徒３３名はまだ暗い朝６時半に学校を出発し、１１時前に北九州市にあるJICA九州に到着しました。今回の研修で予定されている大まかな内容は以下のとおりです。

　１．JICA九州事業説明・研修員制度についての紹介

　２．JICAワークショップ「世界の観方をシフトする」

　３．JICA Exchange Program（JICA研修員の方々との交流）

　　　・天草および天草高校（ASクラス）の紹介

　　　・班に分かれての自己紹介・文化交流（折り紙、日本語）

　　　・ポスター・プレゼンテーション及び質疑応答

　到着後、生徒たちは早速、スタッフの方々に様々な展示を案内していただきました。実際に触ったりして体験できるSDGsについての展示や、漂着ゴミで制作されたクジラのモニュメント、JICAのボランティアのことがよくわかる写真など、興味を引くものがそこここに展示してあります。特にSDGsは授業で扱った内容ということもあり、多くの生徒たちの興味を引いたようです。ホールにある世界地図で、今日お会いする研修員の方の出身国、セルビアの場所を確認している生徒もいました。（みなさんはセルビアがどこにあるか知っていますか？）

　さて、少し早い昼食はJICAのカフェ、「JICAFe」でいただきます。天高生の一番人気は、ジンガマサラと呼ばれるエビがごろごろ入ったインドカレー。ちなみに、このメニューには「TFTランチ」という名前がついています。TFTは「Table for Two」の略。開発途上国の子どもたちの食事に貢献できる、20円の寄付が含まれたメニューです。美味しい食事を楽しみながら少しだけ世界に貢献できるって素敵ですね！　また、「ジーローハン」という、台湾のメニューもなかなかの人気。ごはんに鶏肉や野菜がのっていて、こちらもとても美味しそうです。世界に目を向けたメニューに加え、唐揚げやミートパスタなどベーシックなものもあります。中には２食注文する食べ盛り男子も！　みんな、４時間のバスの旅の疲れからもすっかり回復した様子です。

   Leaving school at 6:30 am in the dark, we 33 students and 4 teachers arrived at JICA Kyushu just before 11:00 am. The program they will join today will go as follows: 

　1. An Introduction to JICA Kyushu and its trainee system

　2. JICA Workshop "Think Globally, Act Locally”

　3. JICA Exchange Program (with JICA participants)

　　- Introduction of Amakusa and our School
       - Self-introduction and cultural exchange in groups
       - Poster presentations and Q&A sessions

　Upon arrival, the students were guided through the various exhibits by the staff. In the hall, there were so many things they could see and experience - such as displays on SDGs, a whale made from debris of the sea, and photos of JICA volunteers. Some students are currently checking the location of Serbia on the map, the country where the JICA participants we will meet today are from. (BTW, do you know where Serbia is?)

　Now, we are just finishing lunch at JICAFe. The most popular dish for our students today was an Indian prawn curry called "Jhinga masala."  This week they set this menu as "TFT" lunch, or "Table for Two” - which means the price includes a 20 yen donation to help children in developing countries. Isn’t it wonderful that we can contribute to the world over a delicious meal? Also, a Taiwanese dish called "鶏肉飯 (Chicken rice)" is also quite popular. There are also basic dishes such as fried chicken and meat pasta. They were all so delicious, and some students even ordered two meals!
