アマモ班を中心とした科学部有志で楠浦町のアマモ調査を行いました。

この時期のアマモは葉が短く、探すのに苦労しましたが、順調に生育していることを確認できました。

冬に向けて、さらに調査を続けていきたいと思います。

今日のASⅡでは、研究計画を練っていくうちに、「そもそも何が目的なのか？」「どうやって調べるのか？」という問題につきあたっている班がいくつも出てきて、頭を抱えながら班でディスカッションを重ねたり、先生に助言をもらったりしていました。

　木の含水量に着目して、木の防音性の研究をしている「音」班は、そもそも「なぜ木なのか？」「含水量だけに着目すべきなのか？」という議論になり、活発にディスカッションしています。その頃、「汽水域班」は、学校にある機械ではヘドロに含まれる有機物の計測が難しいと気づき、仮説に入れる検証可能な数値について話し合うことになりました。一方、「マイハギ」班も似たような状況に直面していました。マイハギに含まれる物質を正確に検出するのが困難ということのようです。こちらは、生物の先生に助言をいただいた後、新たな手がかりを求めて図書館へ向かいました。

　研究計画書が完成！と思っても、いざ研究を進め始めてから気づくことも多いものです。「そもそも」という原点も時々思い返しつつ、様々な知恵を出し合い、試行錯誤しながら目指す方向に一歩ずつ進んでいってくれると思います。

In today’s ASⅡ, many of the groups were facing the same problems; “Is this goal appropriate?” or “Is this the right way to obtain data?”  The students were brainstorming once again in groups, utilizing advice from the teachers.

   A group called “Sound,” which has been studying the sound insulation of wood, went back to their research’s roots, asking themselves “why does it need to be wood in insulting sound?”  They are now not sure if they need to focus on only the water content of the wood or not.  Meanwhile, one called “Brackish water” realized that they can’t measure organic substances with a machine at school.  They are now discussing what kind of verifiable figure they should put in their hypothesis.  There was another group facing a similar problem - one called “Telegraph plant.”  They found that it was difficult to detect the substance in the plant.  After a short discussion with a biology teacher, they headed for the school library.

   Often, they find obstacles only after proceeding with their research.  However, they can always look back to their starting point, have a discussion of some sort, then take another step forward with a different point of view.  Trial and error is vital to progress.  Good luck, everyone!

ASⅢでは、２年生から続けてきた課題研究の集大成として、研究論文を作成しています。

この論文は、継続研究をしていく後輩の参考資料として読まれます。

実験手順や明らかになったことが具体的かつ分かりやすく伝わるように表現を工夫して作成しています。

出来上がった論文は「日本学生科学賞」へ出展する予定です。

本日の３年ATⅡでは天草市への提言書作成に向けて、これまでの研究成果を整理しました。

自分たちの研究を再度振り返り、明らかになったことをまとめたり自分たちのデータだけでは不足する内容を調べたりしていました。

今学期は研究内容をもとに地域への提案を創造し、発信することを目指して活動していきます。

先週のフィールドスタディを経て、班によっては２学期初めてのグループ活動となった今日のATⅠ（２年）です。

　今日の活動ではまず、現時点での研究の深まりや、先行研究の調査がどれだけ進んでいるか、班で協働できているか等、12項目からなる自己評価を行いました。現段階で「数値データの処理」や「地域への提案」などを達成している班はもちろんほぼいないのですが、今後やるべきことを再確認する意味でも、今回の自己評価が指針となってくれることと思います。

　さて、実は研究計画書が来週締切となっています。先行研究調べが夏期休暇中の課題となっていたのですが、取組状況はいかがでしょうか？　各自調べてきたことをグループで共有し、計画書にしっかり盛り込むことができるよう、限られた時間ではありますが各班知恵を出し合って頑張ってください！

　　　At the beginning, students made a self-assessment, answering twelve questions to see how far they had come in their study.  In the assessment, they were asked questions such as “Have you been responsible for working together in a group?” or “Have you learned from previous research and considered it in your own study?”  As of today, of course, it is almost impossible for most of the students to achieve “collecting numeric data to support the study” or “suggesting something useful in the community.” However, those are some of the goals they need to achieve in the end, and the assessment today helps them to check what they need to consider in proceeding their research.  

　　　By the way, the research plans are due next week.  It is never easy to share and discuss enough in the limited time, compared to what we had last year (100 minutes every week), but we can’t do anything but try our best.  We are sure you can make it!  We are looking forward to seeing your research plans full of brilliant ideas make this world a better place!
