８月２５日（金）、２学期の始業式に先立ち、新しいALTの新任式を行い、私のほうから次のように日本語と英語で紹介しました。

「新しいALTの先生を紹介します。アイルランド共和国から来られたチャールズ先生です。

New ALT is Mr Charles Edwin Merchant from The Republic of Ireland.

チャールズ先生は、高校時代に第二外国語で日本語を勉強して、日本にとても興味を持たれ、ALTとして日本で働くことを希望されました。

Mr Charles studied Japanese as the second foreign language at high school. So, He was interested in Japan and He wanted to work as an ALT in Japan.

 チャールズ先生は日本語が上手で、とてもフレンドリーな方です。皆さんと話すことを楽しみにされています。どうか、皆さんの方から積極的に話しかけてください。

 He can speak Japanese well. He is  very friendly . He is looking forward to talking with you. Please speak to him actively .

 ところで、皆さんはアイルランドの首都がどこか知っていますか？

そう、ダブリンです。

By the way, do you know where the capital of Ireland is?

It is Dublin.

　私は、大学生の時に、アイルランドが生んだ大作家のジェイムズ・ジョイスの「ダブリン市民」という有名な小説を読み、深い感銘を受けました。

I read a famous novel the Dubliner written by James Joyce in my  university days.　 I was deeply impressed by this novel.

　この小説を読んで、私はいつかアイルランドに行ってみたいと思いました。しかし、その希望は実現していません。

　I read this good novel and  I would like to visit Ireland someday, but that hope has not yet come true.

　アイルランドの人と一緒に仕事をするのは私にとって初めてです。とてもわくわくしています。

It is the first time to work with the Irish . I am very excited.

　私は英語の教師ではありませんが、できるだけ英語でチャールズ先生とコミュニケーションをとりたいと思っています。皆さんもそうしてください。

 I am not an English teacher, However ,as much as possible,I would like to communicate with Mr Charles in English. Everyone,Please do so like me.

 これで私の挨拶を終わります。これからチャールズ先生に自己紹介をお願いします。
