本日の論理表現Ⅱの授業では、今年度１回目のパフォーマンステストのオリエンテーションを行いました。（※パフォーマンステストとは英語の授業で定期的に実施する実技テストで、昨年度はスキットやShow and Tell等を行いました。）今回は”Sales Pitch”、日本語で言うところの「セールストーク」を創作し、英語で発表することになりました。

本時オリエンテーションを行った３組では、アメリカでは誰もが知っているFLEX tapeという商品を実例として、商品の売り込みに欠かせない”hook”や”reasoning”について学びました。また、ALTのWilliam先生が”The Spirit Glasses 2” という、「この世にもういない人に会える」という画期的なメガネを紹介し、その特長や効果について熱のこもったプレゼンテーションをしました。

その後、生徒たちはグループに分かれ、それぞれ売り込むものをくじで決定しました。William先生が厳選した「商品」は、箸置き、バブルガン、シーグラスなどユニークなものばかり！各グループではリーダーを中心にそれぞれの商品の特長や唯一無二の機能など、様々なアイデアを出し合っていました。

隣の教室では、昨日オリエンテーションを終えた２組の生徒たちがグループでの原稿作成に入っていました。Sarah先生が各グループをまわって商品についての質問やアドバイスをしてくれます。「テスト前の先生の心が読める」商品、「人見知りでも友達が作れる」商品など、人生のちょっとした悩みを解決できる、魅力的な商品開発が進んでいるようです。英語力や発信力だけでなく、創造する力や演技力も必要となるこのSales Pitch。

GW明けにそれぞれの発表を見るのが楽しみです！

Here at Amataka, students have several English performance tests, such as skits or presentations, every year. Today in English Logic and Expression class, they had an orientation for their first performance test this academic year, the “Sales Pitch.”

In Class 3, students first watched a famous sales pitch video which sells “FLEX TAPE” and learned some techniques such as “hook” or “reasoning.”  After that, they saw another sales pitch by their ALT, William-the-Actor, introducing his product “The Spirit Glasses Ⅱ,” which enables people to see the spirits of people from the past.  

Later in class they were divided into groups of four and chose what they needed to sell by randomly drawing numbers. The products they were given were all unique items such as a chopstick rest, a bubble gun, or even a seaglass! In each group, students were putting their heads together and thinking about how to sell their products.

In Class 2 next door, where students were having their second class for the Sales Pitch, our other talented ALT Sarah visited each group and gave them some useful advice. So far, they have developed a product which allows them to read teachers’ minds (especially before exam weeks), as well as another product which helps them make new friends. We teachers are hoping that, through this performance test, students will acquire not only their English and communication skills, but also their creativity or acting skills. Can’t wait for their splendid Sales Pitches after the Golden Week!
