Sharing the passion of Ashikita Agricultural High School with the world. Once a month, we present an English edition of our specially selected stories. Vol. 1: Our Senior Research Presentation (Jan 16th).

— 2025 Agricultural Department Senior Research Presentation —

A dignified silence, the kind that makes one sit up straight, fills the General Learning Room. This is the "Senior Research Presentation" by our third-year students. The ten minutes granted to each group was far more than a mere explanation of slides.

• One group pursued the potential of cultivation using highly-oxygenated water.
• Another, believing in the potential of venison, labored in the processing room to craft the ideal "miso."
• One group took on the challenge of restoring tree vigor to Sweet Spring citrus, which had been struggling with wildlife damage and decline.
• And another explored new possibilities for cut-flower cultivation within the limited confines of planters.

From every presentation, one could feel the profound weight of the time they have invested since their start in April.

The confidence to speak for ten minutes straight does not come from textbooks. It is forged only through the experience of using one's own hands and mind, and wrestling with problems until the very end. That hard-won confidence permeated every word they spoke.

The first and second-year students watched their seniors' backs in silence. "Will we be able to stand as tall as they do one day?" In their steady gazes, I felt both that quiet self-reflection and a deep respect for their seniors.

As each group leaves the stage, "Graduation" draws ever closer. With every finished presentation, another milestone of their third year comes to a close.

As the Head of the Agricultural Department, watching them from the audience today, I was deeply moved by how dependable they have become. It was a magnificent display.

The "ability to face questions with no answers" you gained through this research will surely serve as a reliable compass on your respective paths.

Carrying these days of seeking answers with your peers as your strength, I truly hope you take flight into your next stage with confidence.

Third-year students, thank you for those exceptional ten minutes.
