Happy New Year. I hope everyone had a pleasant and relaxing winter break and has returned to school feeling refreshed and motivated for the new term. During the winter break, I travelled to New Zealand, where it is currently summer. The temperature there was around 24 to 27 degrees Celsius, which felt warm and comfortable, but not as hot as summer in Amakusa.

When I first arrived in Japan in August, I felt quite nervous about starting a new job, meeting new people, and adjusting to life in a different country. However, returning to Japan after my winter break in New Zealand felt very different. Everything felt familiar and welcoming, and Japan is gradually beginning to feel like a second home to me. I was reminded of how comfortable and supported I feel here, and I am genuinely happy to be back.

Finally, I would like to wish all third-year students the very best as they prepare for and take their college entrance examinations this weekend. I hope your hard work brings you success.

新年あけましておめでとうございます。みなさんが楽しくリラックスした冬休みを過ごし、新たな学期に向けてリフレッシュして、やる気満々で学校に戻ったことと思います。

冬休みには現在夏真っ盛りのニュージーランドへ戻りました。現地の気温は24℃から27℃程度と暖かく快適で、天草の夏ほど暑くはありませんでした。

 8月に初めて日本に来た時は、新しい仕事や人との出会い、異国での生活に慣れることにかなり緊張していました。しかし、ニュージーランドでの冬休みを終えて日本に戻ってきた時の感覚は全く違いました。全てがなつかしく温かく感じられ、日本が次第に第二の故郷のように思えてきました。ここがどれほど居心地が良く、周りの人に支えられているかを改めて実感し、戻ってこられて心から嬉しく思っています。 

最後に、今週末に大学入試を控えている三年生のみなさん。これまでの努力が実り、素晴らしい結果となりますように。
