はじめまして！　Nice to meet you!

My name is Nadia. I'm South African, from a city called Pretoria where the Jacaranda trees and fallen petals are beautiful. No, we don't get lions or elephants walking around in our backyards, but we do have places like the Kruger National Park where you can see the Big Five and many other animals in their natural habitat. I recommend visiting if you love nature and wildlife! 

It is also called the Rainbow Nation because of how varied the population is. Not only the colour of our skin, but also our languages, cultures, and foods differ greatly from one household to the next. 

While I learned English in school just like Amataka students, I now speak it as comfortably as my mother tongue, Afrikaans. Being able to speak English has created many opportunities and allowed me to experience many wonderful and interesting things. This includes completing a Bachelor's degree in Human Physiology, Genetics, and Psychology, as well as a Masters in Biomedicine in the United Kingdom. Similarly, I was able to work in many industries including radio and voice acting, emergency call handling, professional gaming, and so many more. 

I hope to equip Amataka students with the same language skills and confidence to go out into the world with no limitations. よろしくお願いします！

はじめまして！みなさん、はじめまして！ナディアです。

私は南アフリカ出身で、プレトリアという街から来ました。プレトリアは、ジャカランダの木々と、街を彩る美しい花びらで知られています。

「南アフリカ」と聞くと、ライオンやゾウが家の庭を歩いているのでは？と思う人もいるかもしれませんね。もちろん、そんなことはありません。でも、南アフリカには、野生の動物たちが自然の中で暮らす姿を見ることができるクルーガー国立公園などがあります。ライオン、ゾウ、サイ、ヒョウ、バッファローの「ビッグファイブ」をはじめ、たくさんの動物を見ることができます。自然や野生動物が好きな人には、ぜひ訪れてほしい場所です！

南アフリカは、「レインボー・ネーション（虹の国）」とも呼ばれています。それは、さまざまな人々が暮らしている国だからです。肌の色だけでなく、言語や文化、食べ物も家庭によって大きく異なります。

私は天草高校のみなさんと同じように、学校で英語を学びました。今では、母語であるアフリカーンス語と同じくらい、英語を自然に話すことができます。

英語を話せるようになったことで、たくさんのチャンスが生まれ、さまざまな素晴らしい経験をすることができました。例えば、大学では人間生理学・遺伝学・心理学を学んで学士号を取得し、その後、イギリスで生物医学の修士号を取得しました。

また、これまでにラジオや声優、緊急通報の受付、プロゲーマーなど、さまざまな分野で仕事をする機会にも恵まれました。

私も英語を通してたくさんの可能性を広げることができたように、天草高校のみなさんにも、英語を使う力と自信を身につけてほしいと思っています。そして、言葉の壁にとらわれることなく、世界へ羽ばたいていってほしいです。
