本日６・７時間目の天草高校地学室は、学年末テスト前日とは思えないくらい（？）、みんな研究に没頭しています。ペットボトルキャップを加工する、マイクロプラスチック班に、オリーブの葉で足湯ならぬ手湯？を試してみている薬草班、それに、発電に向けた準備を黙々と行う、電磁誘導班。それぞれ思い思いに、研究を進めています。

　今日はお天気にも恵まれ、研究活動のために学校の外に出る班もありました。その１つがホタル班ならぬ「カワニナ」班（グループ名が変わったそうです！）。今日は、学校の近くを流れる町山口川で、ホタルのえさであるカワニナや苔の様子を観察してくるとのこと。実際に河原に降りて水に触れてみると... やっぱり、「冷たっ！」という声が思わず出てしまいます。南国・天草でもさすがに１月は水が冷たいんですね（そういえば、今朝は車の窓もガチガチに凍っていました）。寒さのためか、カワニナには残念ながら出会えなかったものの、苔はしっかり確認できたそうです。これが研究の進展につながっていくといいですね。

　さて、あっという間に１月も終わり。２月には、みんなの英語力の見せ所、JICA研修も予定しています。学年末テストが終われば、本評価にJICA研修、それから３月のARPに向けての準備と、ますます忙しく＆楽しくなること間違いなしです。グループやクラスで協力し合い、励まし合いながら頑張っていきましょう！

　本日から、SSH台湾海外研修が始まります。

　多くの先生方、保護者の皆様に温かく見送られ、午前７時に天草高校を出発した旅行団。無事10時前に熊本空港に到着し、12時の便で台北に向かいます。

　初めての海外ということもあり、わくわくドキドキの生徒たち。これから４日間、台湾の大学や高校、博物館等で多くのことを学んできてくれることと思います。

ＳＳＨ指定初期から代々継続されてきた科学部アマモ班の活動が評価され、この度表題の賞を受賞しました。

科学部が「大臣賞」を受賞するのは初であり、大きな快挙と言えます。

本大会は、漁業者やその関係の方々及び水産高校等の活動に対する表彰が多く、その中で普通科高校の一部活動が受賞できたことも、大きな快挙と言えます。

11月9日(日)、三重県志摩市の阿児アリーナにて、天皇皇后両陛下の御臨席の下、式典行事（表彰式を含む）が行われました。

科学部を代表し、部長が参加し、大役を果たしてくれました。

代々の先輩の研究成果に恥じない、立派な式典参加でした。

部長は前日（11月8日(土)）に行われた両陛下との御懇談にも参加しました。

その際、両陛下からお声がけをいただき、天高科学部の成果をお伝えできました。

最後に皇后陛下から、以前天草に御訪問されたとのお話があり、「海がきれいですよね。」とのお言葉がありました。

今後も、この天草のきれいな海を後世につなげていけるように、科学部一同頑張っていきます。

　２年ASクラス各班の研究内容確定に伴い、今日の７時間目から２，３年生の活動場所が変わりました。今までは２年AS：地学室、３年AS：パソコン室だったのが、研究内容に合わせて３箇所の教室に２・３年混合で分かれています。このことにより、２年生は１年後の見通しを持って活動を進めることができ、困った時にいつでも先輩に助言をもらうことができます。また、３年生にとっても、新しい発想を２年生から得る機会となり、自分たちが研究を通して学んだことを継承していくうえできっといい環境になるはずです！

　本日は３年生の仮評価の後、研究活動と並行して２・３年生がお互いに自己紹介をしたり、研究活動について先輩からの助言をもらったりしていました。崇城大学の田丸先生にもお越しいただき、実験方法や結果の分析について相談に行く班も多かったようです。早いものでもうすぐ６月。７月のARP探究成果最終発表会では海外からのお客様も含め、学校内外の多くの方に向けて研究発表をすることになっています。各班、ディスカッションを重ねて、研究をより良いものにしていきましょう！

　From today, the 2nd and 3rd year AS students started to work together in three different classrooms according to what they’ve been researching. This change will hopefully allow 2nd-year students to proceed with their activities with an outlook for the year ahead, and to seek advice from their seniors whenever they have problems. It can also help the 3rd-year students to gain new ideas and pass on what they have learned through their research.

　本日のASⅢでは、これまで探究活動で培ってきた科学的な知識や技能がどの程度身についたかをはかる評価テストを実施しました。〇✕問題から始まり、様々な分野の問題が盛りだくさんの内容でしたが、生徒たちはこれまでの研究での経験や学びをいかし、しっかりと自分の考えを記述していました。

　来週はもう一つ、評価テストがやってきます。なかなか手応えがあるかと思いますが、がんばってください！

   Today in AS III, students were given an assessment test to evaluate the extent to which they have mastered the scientific knowledge and skills they have developed through their exploratory activities. The test consisted of a series of questions on a variety of topics. The students tried their best in answering those questions, making use of their experiences and learning from their research in three years.

　Next week, another assessment test is coming up. It will be quite challenging, but we are sure you can do it. Good luck!

　SSH中間発表会後、考査などでしばらく時間が空き、今日は久々のASⅡです。６時間目はA1、A2、B1の本評価を実施しました。生徒たちは教室でそれぞれの項目に沿って評価シートに記入した後、それぞれの担当者と面談型式で本評価を行いました。

　７時間目は冒頭で中間発表会の振り返りをしました。その後、生徒たちは今月21日にグランメッセ熊本で行われる第３回熊本スーパーハイスクール（KSH）全体発表会「県立高校 学びの祭典」に向けて発表用のポスターを編集したり、データを収集したりと、各班それぞれに久しぶりの研究活動に精を出していました。この「 学びの祭典」では色々な発表や催しが行われるのですが、一言でいうと、県立高校の生徒がステージ発表やポスター発表、学校での取り組み紹介などを行う県下最大級の発表会です。

　第３回熊本スーパーハイスクール（KSH）全体発表会「県立高校 学びの祭典」

　天草高校からはASⅡクラスと科学部を中心に１，２年生の生徒が研究発表や学校紹介を行い、さらにミニドローン体験会も運営することになっています。毎年多くの人でにぎわうこの「学びの祭典」、機会があれば是非足をお運びください！

　Today is the first AS II class after the SSH Interim Presentation, and AS II students had three evaluation interviews. After filling out the evaluation sheets in the classroom, the students met with their supervisors to complete their evaluations.

　The seventh period began with a review of the midterm presentation. After that, the students were busy editing posters and collecting data for “The 3rd Kumamoto Super High School Presentation to be held at Grand Messe Kumamoto on the 21st of this month. This is one of the largest presentations in the prefecture where students from prefectural high schools give stage presentations, poster presentations, and introductions of their school activities.

Prefectural High Schools: “Festival of Learning” 

　From our school, first and second year students, mainly from the AS II class and the Science club, will present their research and introduce our school, and also run a drone experience event. This “Festival of Learning” attracts many people every year, so if you have a chance, please come and visit us!

　10月23日から24日にかけて熊本城ホールで行われる「世界津波の日」2024高校生サミットin熊本。本校からも２年生有志13名の参加が決まっています。これは、世界各国の多くの高校生が参加し、自然災害の脅威や対策を学び、議論するとともに、交流を通じてお互いのきずなを深めるサミットで、１１月５日の「世界津波の日」に合わせて、毎年この時期に行われています。今回の参加予定者は、海外の高校生250名と日本の高校生250名。使用言語はもちろん、英語です。

　本校からの参加生徒は、３班に分かれて防災、減災、復興に関連する研究を行っており、それぞれの研究についてプレゼンテーション発表をすることになっています。サミット当日は発表に加え、世界の高校生の発表を聴いてディスカッションを行う活動もあります。

　今日の放課後、地学室に集まった生徒たちは、それぞれの研究やスライドの進捗を確認し、これからすべきことを確認したりしていました。写真は、３班のうちの１つ、「貝殻」班です。この班では、貝殻を化学反応で発熱させ、冬の災害時に暖を取る方法を考えています。今日は、実験に向けて、夏休みに準備した貝殻を粉砕していました。貝を見せてもらうと、アサリに牡蠣、アワビ、ヒオウギ貝など、天草らしい様々な貝がバラエティー豊かに揃っています。それぞれをミルで粉砕した後（すごい音＆歯医者さんみたい？な匂いがします）、高温で焼くという作業もあるそうです。どうか実験がうまくいきますように！

　授業等と並行しながらサミットへの準備をするのは大変ですが、何といっても、世界中の高校生と英語で語り合えるまたとない機会です。みんなで助け合ってしっかり準備をすることで、本番のサミットでは大きな学びが得られるはず。みんな、がんばって！

　The “World Tsunami Day” 2024 High School Student Summit in Kumamoto will be held on October 23-24, and 13 second-year students from our school will be participating. High school students from around the world will participate in this summit to learn and discuss threats and countermeasures against natural hazards, as well as to deepen mutual bonds through exchange. This summit is held every year, and this year, 250 high school students from overseas and 250 from Japan are scheduled to participate. Of course, English will be the language of instruction.

　The participating students from our school are working on research related to disaster prevention, disaster risk reduction, and creative reconstruction, and will give presentations on their research. On the day of the summit, in addition to the presentations, there will be activities to listen to others and have discussions on the three themes mentioned before.

　After school today, the students gathered in the Earth Science Room to review the progress of their research and slides, and to confirm what they need to do for the summit. The photo shows one of the three groups, the “Shells” group. This group is working on a way to keep warm in the event of a winter disaster by generating heat from shells through a chemical reaction. Today, they were preparing for the experiment by crushing the shells they prepared during the summer vacation. Later, these shells are going to be burned at high temperatures. We wish them success in their experiments!

　It is hard work to prepare for the summit while also having classes and other activities. However, this will be a very special opportunity for every participant to meet and talk with high school students from various countries using English. We hope that everyone will help each other in preparation and do their best so that they can enjoy themselves in the summit!

　ASⅡ・Ⅲでは、１年生や中学生にASクラスのことをよく知ってもらうために、ASクラスのプロモーションビデオを制作することにしました。端的に言うと、AS（天草サイエンス）クラスとは、天草高校の２年次から選択できる理系の探究クラスで、研究や研修など、授業内外でより多くの探究活動を行うことができるクラスです。昨日は２年生、本日は３年生の動画撮影を行っています。写真は、リハーサル中の生徒の様子です。撮影中に思わぬハプニングもあり、何とテイク４まで撮りました。ASクラスに入って研究の楽しさに目覚めはじめた２年生、これまで校内外で様々な経験を積んで、一回りも二回りも大きくなった３年生。ASクラスみんなの思いがつまったビデオになりそうです。

　このAS紹介ビデオのお披露目は７月２日の１年生進路講演会の日になりそうです（これから編集をがんばります...！）。この動画で、多くのみなさんにASの魅力が伝わりますように！！

     We have been making a promotional video of the AS, or Amakusa Science classes, so that many people can learn about us. (By the way, AS class is where you can do a lot of Scientific research and have precious studying experiences in and out of classes). Yesterday we filmed the 2nd graders, and today the 3rd graders. The photos above show the students during the rehearsal. The students had a lot to say, and we shot up to “Take 4”!　This AS introduction video will be shown on July 2, the day of the first-year students' career path lecture. We are working hard on the editing! We hope that this video will help many people understand our AS classes more.

　先週、ASⅡ・Ⅲが学年を越えて同じ教室内での活動をはじめて、１週間が経ちました。さて、合同２回目の今日の様子はどうでしょうか。早速７時間目のASの授業を覗いてみましょう。

　下の３つの写真は左から地学教室、物理教室、それから化学実験室の様子です。今回は２，３年生の分布が分かるようにざっくり色分けしてみました。黄緑が３年生、青が２年生、そしてオレンジ色が指導担当者です。グループの規模は様々ですが（２年生は２つのグループが一緒に座っているところもあります）。同じ教室で楽しく活動している様子が見ていただけると思います！

　このような活動形態になってまだ２週目ですが、場所によってはどれが何年生か見分けがつかないくらい、溶け込んで（？）いるところもあります！　これから２年生の研究が進むにつれて、きっと３年生は困ったときの道しるべとなってくれることでしょう。なかなか自分から話しかけるのが苦手な２年生も、わたしたちスタッフがサポートしますので、心配はいりません。学年を越えてみんなで「協働」していきましょう！

  It has been a week since students in AS II and III started working in the same classroom. How are they doing? Let's take a quick peek into the classrooms.

　The three pictures below show, from left to right, the Earth Science classroom, the Physics classroom, and the Chemistry lab during AS class in the seventh period today. The 3rd graders are shown in light green, the 2nd graders in blue, and orange are their teachers. Now you can see how they are in the same classroom. 

　This is only the second week with this environment change, but students of different grades blend in so well in some places, that it is sometimes hard to tell which one is which! As the second-year students' research progresses, the third-year students will surely be able to help guide the younger students when they need help. Even if you are rather shy, don't worry, as we teachers are always here for you to support. Let's all enjoy working together in class!

　本日のATⅡでは、授業の冒頭でATⅡ担当の中村先生から７月に行われるARP探究成果発表会を見据えた今後の活動についての説明がありました。ATⅡの生徒たちは全員、ARPでスライド発表またはポスター発表のいずれかで研究成果を発表することになっています。発表資料の提出一次締切まで授業時間がもう２時間しかないということに気づき、どの班もてきぱきとスライドやポスターの編集を行っていました。

　中には、実験や調査を行って不足しているデータを補おうとしている班もいます。銀天街の活性化を目指す「銀天街」班は、今月６月１６日に本渡中央銀天街で開催される「街はみんなの遊園地」で高校生向けのイベントを実施し、人通りの変化を確かめるそうです（みなさん、お待ちしています！）。オリーブを活用した研究を進めている「オリーブ」班は、自分たちが”実験台”となって、階段を上り下りし、運動前と運動後の血圧の変化を測定していました。

　探究活動も今年で３年目を迎える３年生。限られた時間で研究を進める必要があり、なかなか思うように結果が出ないときもありますが、どの班も班長を中心に活発にディスカッションを行い、仮説の検証に向けてがんばっています。７月のARP探究成果発表会では各班、これまでの研究成果をしっかり発表してくれることと思います。保護者の皆様、地域の皆様、７月１８日は是非、天草市民センターまで足をお運びください。お待ちしています！　

　Mr. Nakamura opened today’s ATⅡ with an explanation of future activities before the ARP Exploratory Research Presentation in July, where all ATⅡ students will present their research results in either a slide or poster presentation. Realizing that there were only two more hours of class time before the first deadline for presentation materials, students in all groups were “speeding-up” in preparing their posters and other materials.

　In class,  some of the groups were conducting experiments and surveys to get more data before their presentations. The group called “Ginten-gai”, which aims to revitalize a local shopping street called Ginten-gai, was planning an event for high school students in the Ginten-gai on June 16.  They are trying to see how the pedestrian traffic changes between the day with or without such an event for the young. The “Olive '' group, which is conducting research using olives, was up and down stairs and was measuring changes in blood pressure before and after exercise.

　This is the third year for the students in ATⅡ to participate in such research activities. We expect that each group will do their best in presenting their research results in July. Looking forward to seeing you at the Amakusa Civic Center on July 18!
