１０月初旬、２年生文系は生物基礎の授業で「鶏頭の解剖」を実施しました。

ペアで役割を分担し、鶏頭の水煮の解剖及び観察を行いました。

ニワトリとヒトの脳の構造を比較し、それぞれの脳で発達している部位が異なりました。その後、各脳の働きを確認し、脳の発達の程度と生活していた環境の関連を推測しました。

解剖前は怖がっている生徒が多いように思いましたが、丁寧に解剖し、きれいに脳を取り出すことができました。スケッチは複数の方向から観察し、脳周辺の特徴を捉えようとしていました。（今回は続きがありますので、そちらもご覧ください。）

実は今回の実験には、本校ALTのAndrew（アンドリュー）先生にも参加していただきました。

先生は授業中に生徒と交流され、生徒は英語を活用しながら教科書より詳しい内容に触れることができました。

アンドリュー先生の大学でのご専門は、脳に関連されると聞いていたので、もう少し詳しいお話を伺うためにいくつかの質問に回答していただきました。

Ｑ１：What is your field of study?
Ａ１：I studied neuroscience and computer science in college.
Ｑ２：Did you take biology in high school?
Ａ２：Yes! I took introductory biology (1年生) and advanced biology (3年生).
Ｑ３：If so, what was the most memorable lesson for you?
Ａ３：My most memorable lesson was learning about genetics using fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster). We cared for and breeded fruit flies with different traits to learn how genes could be passed down. Afterward, we presented our findings. I felt like a professional scientist.
Ｑ４：What kind of experiments or observations did you do in biology class?
Ａ４：We used microscopes to view bacteria / swabs of our inside cheek, and stained them with Methylene blue to look at nuclei.We also used raw potato slices and used them in H₂O₂ to observe acidic reactions and in saltwater to observe how much water they absorbed.My favorite lab was using gel electrophoresis to separate DNA fragments.
