Greetings!

My favorite part of Spring in Japan is the sight of cherry blossoms. Sadly, the pink flowers only last a couple weeks. Maybe that’s what makes them special. I am from South Dakota, USA. My home does not have cherry blossoms. Living in Japan has been a wonderful opportunity for me to experience “hanami.”

Last year I travelled to Osaka for flower viewing. I was amazed by the cherry blossoms contrasting with the castle. This year’s flowers in Kumamoto Prefecture were equally beautiful. Spring in Japan is truly a special season.

 新学期のご挨拶

日本のお気に入りの季節は「春」、その中でも「桜」の季節が大好きなんだ。

悲しいことに、花が咲いている期間は、はかなく、短いんだね。

それだから一層　人びとは桜の魅力に魅かれるんだと思うんだ。

僕の　故郷はアメリカのサウス・ダコダ。もちろん寒いところだから桜の木は存在しないし、

桜の花も見たこともなかったんだ。

だからこの熊本に来て「花見」の経験ができたことは、僕にとって素晴らしい機会になったよ。

昨年、花見をするために大阪に旅行したんだ。　なんと桜の花と大阪城のコラボが何とも言えぬ景色を

生み出していて感動したんだ。

今年は、熊本城の桜を見たんだけど、これもまた素敵だったよ。

日本の「春」は本当に特別な季節だと思うよ。
