今日のASⅡでは、１月18日にJICA九州で行う海外研修代替研修に向けて、William先生、Jennifer先生、英語科の中村先生をお招きし、英語でのポスタープレゼンテーションと質疑応答を行いました。

 　とはいえ、ほとんどの班の生徒にとって、英語でのポスター発表は初めての経験です。まだ練習を始めたばかりとあって、原稿をそのまま読むだけだったり、専門用語をうまく説明できなかったりと、どの班も悪戦苦闘しています。できたてほやほやのポスターも、まだまだ改善の余地がありそうです。William先生からは、クラス全体に向けて以下のようなアドバイスをいただきました。

　１　自信がなさそうに発表する生徒が目立つ。心配な語はあらかじめ辞書などで正確な発音を確認し、自信をもって発表すること。

　２　アイコンタクトが十分でない。完璧な英語でなくていいので、相手の反応を見ながら発表すること。

　３　ポスターは要点をしぼって、見やすく。長々と文章を書いている班が多い。読む原稿とポスターに書く文章を同一にしてはいけない。

　今回の研修では、海外からの研修員の方々にプレゼンテーションをするだけではなく、「世界の観方をシフトする」ワークショップでの活動や、英語での文化交流なども予定しています。この貴重な学びの機会を最大限に活かせるよう、あと一週間、精一杯準備をしてほしいです。期待しています！

   In Today’s AS II, students gave a poster presentation in English to William-sensei, Jennifer-sensei, and Mr. Nakamura.  They did this as a practice for their presentations in their StudyTour at JICA Kyushu next week, on January 18.

　For most of the students in the group, however, it was their first experience giving a poster presentation in English. So, many students had a hard time explaining things in English, or asking questions.  They also need some more improvement with their posters.  Here is some advice William-sensei gave to the class: 

1. Please check the pronunciation of the words beforehand with a dictionary so that you can be confident in your presentations.

2. Make more eye-contact. It is not necessary to use perfect English, but if you are looking down and just reading out what you had prepared, your presentation won’t succeed.

3. Do not write everything on your posters.  Think of the main points you want to focus on, and your posters will be much better.  What is on the poster should be different from what you speak.

　In the upcoming study tour, students will not only give presentations to the JICA participants, but will also have workshops and cultural exchanges in English. We hope they will do their best in preparation so that they can make the most of this valuable learning opportunity.
